Running with the Rangers

14 10 2011

Well, the Rangers-Tigers series is heading back to Arlington for Saturday’s game 6 at 7:05 P.M. CT with the Rangers having a 3-2 lead. I’d like to point out some of the statistics that have stuck out in my mind so far:

The Rangers are up 3 games to 2, but no Rangers win belongs to the starters.

  • Game 1 Winner: Ogando
  • Game 2 Winner: Adams
  • Game 3 Winner: Fister
  • Game 4 Winner: Feldman
  • Game 5 Winner: Verlander

I guess the analysts were right when they said the Rangers had one of the strongest bullpens in the MLB.  They have only given up 3 earned runs in the 5 games of the ALCS.

  • Nelson Cruz has 11 postseason career home runs which is already tied for 16th all-time (and that is in only two postseason appearances, 2010 and 2011)
  • Cruz is the only player in MLB history to hit for the home-run cycle in a single postseason series.
  • Cruz has 11 RBIs, tying him with David Ortiz (2004) and B.J. Upton (2008) for most in a league championship series.
  • Regular season MVP-candidate Michael Young was 3 for 29 in this postseason before hitting the go-ahead run in the 6th (even though the lead was later surrendered) during game 4. He is currently 5 for 34.
  • After giving up a home run in the 7th inning of game 5, Koji Uehara became the first relief pitcher in MLB history to allow a home run in 3 straight postseason appearances.
