Kenyon Martin joins Lob City

Even though the Clippers were dismantled by the Nuggets last night in a 121-91 loss, they have now become the bigger winner of the two.

Ex-Nugget Kenyon Martin will join forces with all-stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin on the Los Angeles Clippers, a source told ESPNLosAngeles.

Tired of the lockout this past summer, Martin decided to take his talents across the Pacific Ocean to China. He joined the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers and was supposed to be under contract until later on this month or even into March.

However, the Cincinnati Power Foward was able reach a buyout with the team. The Clippers will be now be paying $2.5 million to join the team.

This 6-9 big man will bring the Clippers great help as they hope to make a push into the playoffs. Not having much depth at the 4 position, the Clippers needed this pick up and Blake Griffin (36.8 minutes per game) surely appreciates the move. Chris Paul now has yet another target to lob the basketball. Martin might have an awkward shooting and subpar free throw shooting, but he makes up for it with the athleticism and energy he brings night in and night out. (Also, he is the only player in the league with a pink lips neck tattoo – it might be valuable down the road.)

Fitting into the Clippers system shouldn’t be too difficult for K-Mart since he is joining Chauncey Billups – his teammate for three seasons. During the 2008-2009 NBA season, they both played significant roles in helping their Nuggets make the Western Conference Finals.

For his career, Kenyon Martin has averaged 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds. He put up 8.6 ppg and 6.2 rpg during the 2010-2011 season.
