Dominant Dirk Leads the Way

Dallas 112, Denver 95

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Denver Nuggets as six players scored in double figures.

Vince Carter 14
Dirk Nowitzki 33
Ian Mahinmi 11
Rodrigue Beaubois 14
Jason Terry 10
Brandan Wright 15

Even though there was clearly balanced scoring, Dirk Nowitzki led the way tonight. Having a vintage Dirk shooting night (12-19 from the field and 3-4 from behind the three-point line), the Big German kept hitting big shots right when the Nuggets started to cut the deficit.

The Nuggets lack of size down low hurt them against Dirk along with other aspects of the game, including being out-rebounded 45-35. This will be a problem moving forward if JaVale McGee does not become a factor.

Jason Kidd wasn’t one of the six in double figures, but his impact was invaluable tonight. The 38 year old had 10 assists and zero turnovers. On a night when the Mavs had a ridiculous 33 assists on 45 field goals, Jason Kidd pushed his team in the right direction.

Having one of the most efficient games of the night, Brandan Wright reminded Dallas fans of Tyson Chandler on both ends of the court. Along with his 15 points on 7-9 shooting, he had six boards, a steal and a block in 27 minutes. Haywood will most likely remain the starting center but his two back-ups (Wright and Mahinmi) are playing some solid basketball.

With this win, the Mavs finally stop their seven game losing streak on the road. Overall, they have now won four in a row, the last two being the most impressive (San Antonio and Denver). They will look to keep this momentum going as the Los Angeles Lakers come into town on Wednesday.

Odom may not have scored in double figures (6 points), but he had 9 rebounds and that did impact the game for the Mavs.
