Fun Fact Friday

20 04 2012

Eleven out of the past 14 No. 1 overall NFL draft picks have been quarterbacks, and this year should continue this trend with either Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III being taken first. Although this honor usually results in a nice payday, it doesn’t necessarily translate into championships. In fact, of all currently active former #1 picks, there are only three with Super Bowl rings. Those three are Peyton Manning (University of Tennessee; drafted by the Colts in 1998; won Super Bowl XLI with the Colts), Eli Manning (University of Mississippi; drafted by the Chargers and immediately traded to the Giants in 2004; won Super Bowls XLII and XLVI with the Giants) and David Carr (Fresno State University; drafted by the Texans in 2002; served as Eli Manning’s backup in Super Bowl XLVI).
