Finally – the Mavs decided to keep one of the pieces from their championship run.
Sources say that Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle contract extension has been constructed, and the organization will provide specifics of this signing later today, according to Brad Townsend from the Dallas Morning News. His previous four-year contract would have expired July 1.
What a great move for the Mavericks. Carlisle has instilled his coaching methods (including the morphed man-to-man and 2-3 zone defense that has worked throughout his tenure in DFW) on this entire franchise, and the team has bought into it. There has never been any serious dissension between Carlisle and any of the players, even though he frequently shifts players around and leaves some players out to dry in certain games.
It also can’t be forgotten that this man brought the franchise their first championship less than a year ago. He used every player from Jason Terry to Peja Stojakovic in a way that would give his team their best chance to succeed. With just a little help from that guy named Dirk Nowitzki, Carlisle effectively helped his team succeed 16 times during the playoffs.
If Carlisle continues to bring his Dallas team successful seasons and the players continue to buy what he’s selling, many more contract extensions could be awaiting him in the future.
